Dojo Rules and Etiquette

  1. Remove street shoes before entering the dojo.
  2. Bow when you enter and leave the dojo.
  3. Always walk to the rear of a class in session.
  4. Speak quietly when classes are in session.
  5. No eating, drinking, smoking or chewing gum in the studio.
  6. Kneel while putting on or removing your belt inside the dojo.
  7. Kneel while a black belt is putting on or removing their belt.
  8. If a class is kneeling and meditating, you should also kneel and meditate.
  9. Refrain from using foul language in or near the studio.
  10. Always bow to the instructor at the beginning and end of each class.
  11. Do not disrupt the flow of a class by interrupting the instructor with questions.
  12. Do not teach other students material unless you are asked to do so by your instructor.
  13. Possession of drugs or alcohol in the studio by students is grounds for immediate dismissal.
  14. No sparring is allowed in the dojo unless supervised by the chief instructor.
  15. Never suggest or inquire about your next rank test.
  16. Always refer to your instructor as “Sir” or “Ma’am.”
  17. All beginning students must wear an all-white karate uniform (Gi).  When a student reaches purple belt, he or she may wear an all black uniform.
  18. Control your emotions at all times.
